| Abstract: |
| The present graduates in library and information sciences from secondary schools cover only one-fiftieth of those from universities and colleges and are not equally distributed. By the year of 2000, China should have 375—474 elementary and secondary schools in library and information sciences，but this is almost an astronomical figure that is beyond our hope and desire since the fact that the elementary and secondary school education being so slow in development and appearing a trend of going backwards. Therefore, the task of strengthening the secondary school education in library and information sciences should brook no delay.
