| The traditional MARC ,being a kind of data exchange format is of complex structure,redundant data and reduplicative fields,thereby is incapable of meeting needs of developing automation of library and information services.To this end,the authors have designed a kind of MARC programme of text-based format which consists of 3 areas:identifying and coding,bibliographic description,and standard control and retrieval,with living examples to illustrate these areas.The programme has already been tastes by the Zhongshan Provincial Library,Gwangdong Province and has
