| Abstract: |
| There are now in Japan 86 tit.of library science periodicals,among which the "Modern Libraries" is comparatively the representative one that started publication in July,1950 and from 1950 to 1993 had published 474 articles,76. 2% of which were monographs，and articles with realistic subject matter amounted to 92. 8%.There were 61.8% of the articles puhlished with citations，averaging 5.3 items per article.Among the 476 authors，17 had published 3 or more than 3 articles.This said journal is characterized by the matter-of-fact attitude,seeking the new,publishing a vast amount of special issues and laying stress on asking foreign authors to write papers(accounting for 7.6%).10 tabs.6 refs.
