Abstract:
Up to 1990，there had been 20 universities and colleges where lbrary and information courses were offered,among which 52 units (departments or specialities) were of ordinary college courses,11 units were of post-graduate education and 3 units were of dotorate education. In 1992 , the Departmeht of Library and Information of the University of Beijing took the lead in changing its name into the "Department of Information Handling". Up to March 1995，names of 26 departments had been changed into the same name as Beida's. For the present，there are 46 required courses, 57 elective courses in the Departments of Information Handling of China. The paper falls into 4 parts,presenting in detail the straits the pattern change foaces and the problems need to be solved. 6 tabs. 16 refs.
