| Abstract: |
On the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Steering Committee for Academic Library of China （SCAL）,SCAL and Peking University Library （PKU Library） jointly released the Compass of Academic Library Modernization （CALM） Report（hereinafter the “CALM Report”）This paper interprets the CALM Reportfrom six frontier issues and three contemporary propositions of academic library modernization to provide an in depth understanding and comprehensive application of the CALM Reportfor academic library practitioners and researchers nationwide and help them with the planning,construction,research and evaluation of library modernization.
The six frontier issues of academic library modernization in the next five years include the core concepts,main objectives,practical issues,theoretical issues,key elements,and ecological relationships,which respectively relate to the value systems,developmental directions,key areas,practical guidance,developmental foundations,and positioning benchmarks of academic library modernization and provide a guide for academic libraries to achieve connotative development,overall development,high quality development,scientific development,sustainable development and the construction of new development paradigms. The academic library modernization should also find ways to mobilize the enthusiasm of all sides inside and outside the university,deeply analyze the foresight of minority opinions,give full play to the creativity of advanced libraries,and actively explore three contemporary propositions:academic library is an integral part of the university talent training system；academic library is an important symbol of national cultural prosperity；academic library is a leader of information ecology. The three propositions are closely related to the six frontier issues,which are of strategic importance to the construction of the modern development pattern of academic libraries in the future.
In the process of applying the CALM Report,each library can make selections and trade offs based on its actual situation and target positioning to make its modernization development plan and construction program more suitable and practicable. SCAL will continue to research on the trends of academic library modernization,deepen trend studies on specific topics according to the development needs,strengthen the guidance and evaluation of academic library modernization,and meanwhile work together with academic libraries nationwide to explore the construction of academic library modernization with Chinese characteristics. 1 fig. 11 refs.

文章从大学图书馆现代化的六个前沿课题入手,对教育部高等学校图书情报工作指导委员会和北京大学图书馆合作研制的《大学图书馆现代化指南针报告》进行内容解读,并提出大学图书馆现代化的三个时代命题,以期为全国高校图书馆从业人员和研究人员深入理解和全面应用《大学图书馆现代化指南针报告》,开展大学图书馆现代化建设、规划、研究与评估提供重要参考。图1。参考文献11。
