The paper discusses in brief the history of development,the fundamental and the technology of the overseas computer-produced indexes.Essentials of the main computer-produced index systems are also introduces,including the keyword index,citation index,Selective Listing in Combination(SLTC),Articulated Subject Index(ASI),Preserved Context Indexing System(PRECIS),Postulate-Based Permuted Subject-Indexing(POPSI) and Nested phrased Indexing System(NEPHIS).Looking back to the development of the Chinese computer-produced indexes,the paper portrarys the prospects of them.1 ill.15 refs.
