            dimensional system that integrates national, regional and sectoral institutions. Information
            resources are jointly communicated, constructed and shared through the building of cooperative
            cataloguing system, distributive document delivery network and collaborative resources
            subscription platform, etc.
              The China Online Library Cataloging Center (OLCC), established by the NLC, has a
            membership of 2,854. Each year over 700,000 records are uploaded, and nearly 12 million records
            are downloaded. The CALIS Union Catalog Center holds nearly 50 million records, and monthly
            downloads are about 1.3 million. Public libraries of all levels have jointly built the centralized
            repositories of metadata, registering 2.58 million unique identifiers (UID). Through the Wenjin
            search system, 360 million distributed heterogeneous metadata are available for one-stop discovery
            and service provision. Colleges and universities have shared over 300 million records of books,
            periodicals, newspapers and theses, as well as 360,000 e-books through the platform of the e-reading
            platform of CALIS (http://www.yidu.edu.cn/). The NSTL (2018) acquires technological resources
            in science, engineering, agriculture and medicine collaboratively, offering information services
            through 40 outlets nationwide.
              In particular, in terms of the collection, arrangement and preservation of traditional documents
            and classics, libraries play the leading role and cooperate with documents collection institutions,
            including museums, archives and temples. A collaborative survey and graded protection working
            mechanism is established with the support of the China Ancient Books Preservation Program and
            Preservation Program for Revolutionary Literature and Literature Published in the Republican
            Period of China (1912-1949). More than 20 million ancient books have been properly protected.
            Over 670,000 survey data of ancient books and more than 300,000 survey data of documents
            published during the Republic of China period (1912-1949) have been released on the union
            catalogue. Over 3.3 million pages (leaves) of ancient books have been restored. In addition, the
            number of full-text digital images of ancient books released online has exceeded 65,000, and that
            of ancient books photoprint amounts to over 14,000〇.

            1.5  Promoting multicultural exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations in an
            open and inclusive manner


            Libraries carry the cultural genes of nations and countries and constitute an important part in
            cultural exchanges between nations and countries. With the development of China’s Reform and
            Opening-up, the library is playing an active role in international cultural exchanges. For instance,
            the NLC hosts a number of exhibitions overseas, including “Celestial Empire: life in China 1644-
            1911” and “Memories in Oracle-Bone Inscriptions”. Additionally, the NLC also cooperated with
            the British Library (BL) to present the exhibition titled “Shakespeare to Sherlock: Treasures of the
