CHEN Geng & HU Yachun / The attribution analysis of low participation in public reading 089
among rural residents: A survey from 77 administrative villages and rural libraries in Hubei Province

previous research conclusions and the research analysis of this paper, it is found that the factors
influencing rural residents’ low participation in public reading are complex and diverse, and there
are internal and external differences and hierarchical relationships among the factors. In order to
solve the dilemma of rural public reading, we should not continue the traditional supply-side input
mode of “increasing money and people”. Instead, we should examine and promote rural reading
comprehensively from three aspects: Rural residents on the demand side, public reading stimulus
on the supply side and the circumstance. Among them, it is particularly critical to stimulate and
strengthen the rural residents’ internal demand for public reading and develop their endogenous
power in participating in public reading.
