| To discuss the threats to and confusion of library and
information science education in the United States,the authors begin with
a review of the past and present situation of library education,then explain
the reasons for the resulting threats and confusion.Except for some reasons mentioned by other researchers,they suggest that financial problems and the failure to adjust to a changing job market during the developing years of the information industry are two important factors.In conclusion,they suggest that with an improved ceonomy in the U.S.,internal self-adjustment of library schools and more job opportunities for MLS graduates,the trend of the closing of library schools may come to an end.31 refs.
