| 1876-1976 is an important historical period in the development of library service to children and young adults in the United States. 1876, 1900, 1920 and 1950 are several important phases in this period, which divide this history into several different stages. Carline M. Hewins and Anne Carroll Moore are two pioneers in the United States library service to young adults. The establishment of the American Library Association, the publication of the report about the public libraries in the United States, the continuous publication of 8 reports on young reading, the development of the school library standards are several important events during this period. The elements that promote this process include the following factors: the promotion from female librarians, 8 reading reports on young adults, the discovery of the young adults, the rise of childrens rights consciousness, the understanding of the relationship between reading and formation and development of childrens character. 1 tab. 16 refs. |
