2 Results
2.1 Comparative analysis of user platform preferences
After analyzing sample data crawled above, the metadata to explore user platform preferences
mainly consists of disciplines, platform types, journals, downloads and citations. The data above
are statistically analyzed as follows.
(1) Descriptive statistics
In perspective of disciplines (as shown in Table 2), average downloads per article on journal
official websites is greater than CNKI in most disciplines (only “Management Science” is
excluded), which indicates that users generally prefer open access journal official websites rather
than pay-for-access information integration platform to obtain required papers. By summarizing
average download per article on official websites and CNKI, it reveals that “Earth Science” has the
highest downloads, then “Library, Information and Archival Science”, “Economics”, “Pedagogy”,
“Biology” and “Management Science”, while “Computer Science” and “Math” are the least.
In addition, average downloads per article on CNKI of social sciences are higher than natural
sciences.
