Books Preservation and Conservation Plan” as well as “Preservation and Conservation Plan of
Revolutionary Documents and Documents in the Minguo Period”, the protection, reorganization,
research and utilization of ancient books was improved as a whole. The status quo of collection
of ancient books was investigated which greatly ameliorated the collection conditions. Over 200
leaves of ancient books were restored. The number of restoration professionals increased from
less than 100 to more than 1,000. Through projects of reorganization and publication of ancient
books such as Excellent Traditional Chinese Culture Repository and Guangzhou Classics, cultural
connotation of those books was tapped and elucidated in order to provide better service for the
society. Museums of classic books were founded in Jilin Province, Hubei Province and so on.
In the museums, modern information technology, advanced exhibition methods and interactive
experience were applied to host qualified exhibitions, which were welcomed by the public. The
Traditional Chinese Book Exhibition was held jointly by the NLC (China National Center for
Preservation & Conservation of Ancient Books) and centers of ancient book preservation at the
provincial level, aiming to exhibit national treasures, classics, skills and traditions. The Shandong
Library advanced the development of Nishan Academy by the pattern “Library + Academy”. In
2019 the National Museum of Classic Books held the Exhibition on the Protection and Inheritance
of Traditional Chinese Cultural Classics. Over 330 items of ancient rare books collected by over
40 institutions from more than 20 provinces and over 30 bibliophiles were exhibited. The Ancient
Books Protection Service—Treasure of Shanhai She, a live-action puzzle game was developed to
provide the visitors the immersive experience of fine traditional Chinese classics.
Furthermore, public libraries of all levels explored to inherit and promote fine traditional Chinese
culture in innovative ways such as cultural and creative products and study trips. The Alliance of
Cultural and Creative Products Development of Libraries was founded by 116 libraries across the
country and the Tmall flagship store was opened online. Study trips were organized by libraries in
Guangxi Province, Shandong Province, Zhejiang Province and so on. The library was playing an
increasingly crucial role in traditional culture inheritance.

1.4 Nationwide reading flourishing

Nationwide reading has been a topic in the Report on the Work of the Government for six times
since 2014. The nationwide reading becomes more and more popular. As the principle pubic
reading service provider, libraries of all levels held actively nationwide reading activities to
provide more rich and excellent resources, more refined and lively reading ways as well as more
open and better-designed reading space to better serve diversified public reading demands.
Public libraries of all levels held reading promotion activities such as lectures, exhibitions,
reading instruction, communication, speeches, reciting, exchanging and sharing books. Some
reading services such as the Wenjin Forum by the NLC, the Book Exchange Fair by the Capital
Library, the Changjiang Forum by the Hubei Provincial Library and the Nan Shufang by the
