of science and technology, economy and society, intelligence research constantly expands its
research objects, updates its research paradigm, and excavates useful intelligence information. The
main task of intelligence research is to provide services for scientific decision-making activities,
and its main social function is to make predictions and give feedback.
Information service is the core field of information science with Chinese characteristics, and
it is also an important aspect to demonstrate the strength of the discipline. The discipline cannot
prosper if it has no practical application. Information science with Chinese characteristics is an
applied science, so it must keep pace with the times. The upgrading of service models, the tracking
of information users, the research of knowledge integration, etc., these specific propositions are all
generated to meet the needs of information users.
These basic categories, which are interrelated, form a chain loop structure between categories
from bottom to top. As a pillar field, information science theories and methods provide a theoretical
basis for other fields. As a key field, information organization and retrieval provide a methodological
basis for other fields. As a major field, intelligence research provides research scenarios for other
fields. As a core field, information service provides innovative applications for other fields.

2 Conclusion

With the continuous development of China’s society, politics, economy and culture, information
science with Chinese characteristics is also gradually maturing. The tortuous course of scientific,
economic and social development has also given specific goals and significance to the discipline.
Nowadays, the most important thing to do is to study its historical development and clarify
its mission, so as to meet the new needs of national social development, security services, and
scientific decision-making better. Information science is not the only discipline that needs change
and transformation currently. Like other disciplines, it is facing the impact and challenges brought
about by historical changes. It needs to constantly adapt to the environment, strengthen the
discipline system, and retain its uniqueness. The various views of information science researchers
have jointly created a situation of “a hundred flowers blooming” for information science with
Chinese characteristics. After analyzing the important viewpoints in the history of information
science, this paper summarizes the basic categories and core propositions of information science
with Chinese characteristics, not only attempts to explain the core goals and tasks of information
science with Chinese characteristics, but also strives to paint a comprehensive picture and key
areas from a development perspective. In the new environment, it also tries to extract the core
competitiveness and strives to enhance the social value and accurate positioning of the discipline,
so that it could meet the national scientific and technological innovation, economic development,
social security needs better.
