The discipline system, academic system and

discourse system of information science with Chinese
characteristics

Abstract
Faced with the great changes unseen in a century, it is ever more important to build the discipline
system, academic system and discourse system of information science with Chinese characteristics.
This paper introduces the development process of the discipline system, academic system and discourse
system of information science in China, identifies the patterns and trends of development and changes,
and makes the following conclusions: the focus of the discipline system has gradually changed from
scientific and technological information to other areas such as social science, agriculture, medicine,
military affairs and security; the focus of the academic system has gradually expanded from scientific
and technological literature and the study on patterns of literature exchanges to the theories and
approaches on the collection, organization, processing, retrieval and service of information, data and
knowledge; and the focus of the discourse system has expanded from scientific and technological
development and work on literature to the development of resources and information in various
fields, and then to the information discourse system oriented to national strategies. On that basis, this
paper proposes the discipline system of information science under the macroscopic intelligence view,
analyzes the academic system of information science under the perspectives of integrity and expansion,
and emphasizes the core field and power of discourse in the discourse system of information science.
According to the research, information science with Chinese characteristics shall be able to voice the
ideas of information, show the spirit of information in national strategies, strengthen the support of
information in decision-making, and play a greater role in safeguarding national security and promoting
social development without failing to remember the original intention, fulfill the mission and honor the
promise to the times.

0 Introduction

On May 17, 2016, General Secretary XI Jinping clearly pointed out at the Symposium on
Philosophy and Social Sciences that it is necessary to “put forward subjective and original
theoretical views, and build a distinctive discipline system, academic system and discourse system,
