3.2 Result analysis on the citation intensity

We counted citation intensities of Chinese books in different disciplines and divided them into 4
intervals. The results are shown in Figure 3. “1” means that the books are cited once on average in
the citing literatures, and “1-2” means that the citation intensity is higher than 1 and lower than 2.
It can be seen from Figure 3 that citation intensity of 1 in computer reached 91.30%, and sport
science is 77.94%. It indicates that most books in these two disciplines were cited only once. In the
disciplines of law and medicine, many citation intensities were between 1 and 2. By comparison,
there were more high citation intensities in the discipline of literature.

3.3 Result analysis on citation length

We sorted the citation content lengths of Chinese books in different disciplines from the
highest to the lowest, and then numbered each literature to obtain the distribution of books’
citation lengths. Among all citation content of 399 books in five disciplines, Only 1.28% of
the citations are between 360 and 600 strings in length. In order to make the comparison result
more intuitive, Figure 4 only selected the citation content within 360 strings. To address the
problem of unequal citation number in different disciplines, we calculated the proportion of
citations in different intervals of citation length in each discipline based on the results in Figure
               4. The results are shown in Figure 5 (the 20 on abscissa indicates the citation length interval
               (0, 20]).
