3 Result analysis

3.1 Result analysis on the citation location

We analyzed the 1,045 citation location data, and obtained the citation location distributions in
citing literatures of Chinese books in different disciplines. The results are shown in Figure 2.
43.97% citations in the computer science appeared in the Methodology section, followed by the
Introduction and Related Work sections. The citation content of the Discussion part of medicine
accounts for 51.42%, and the proportion of the Introduction section is 21.89%. In sport science,
citation content in the Related Work and Discussion sections has large proportions, and both of the
two exceed 20%.

Based on the overall citation location distribution, citation content appeared in the Introduction
section accounts for a relatively high proportion of all citation content, while in the sections of
Data, Experiment and Conclusion, the proportion is lower in each discipline. Due to the different
citation functions expressed in different sections, distributions of citations in different chapters are
uneven. For example, some sections tend to conduct background descriptions or methodological
studies, while others focus on empirical analysis. In addition, it can be concluded that citation
content in the Discussion sections of different disciplines is quite different, especially in medicine
and computer science.
