Figure 1. The co-evolution mechanism of ideas, methods and practices of archival research
archival content discovery and service mode transformation as well. Postmodernism advocates
“destructive creation combined with creative destruction”, opposes grand narrative structures, and
focuses on the behavioral and conscious properties of individuals or groups. The ideas of path
and method revolution proposed in this paper focus on the entity mining, knowledge organization
and self-presentation in participatory services, which can extend the postmodern archival research
trend that focuses on the memory of subcultures or vulnerable groups at the methodological level.
In practice, the connotation of archival research objects and technologies is becoming increasingly
complex and changeable due to the reaction of social consciousness, which requires scholars to
resort the existing methodology. For comprehensive archives at all levels, the set goal of “increasing
the development and utilization of archival information resources” under the 14th Five-Year Plan
urgently needs to be supported by a new technical methodological system and take the content
mining and participatory services of archival resources as the core, finally forming a new model of
archival development and service. As for the archives administration, it is necessary to effectively
[20]
mine the value of archives and promote the use of archives . Such a top-level design and overall
layout requires to adjust, iterate and fill in the gaps in the existing archival development and
utilization policies, standards and models. It is also inseparable from the emerging paths and
methods of archival research.
2.2 Updating and mapping of archival research paths
2.2.1 Updating and mapping of archival research elements from DH perspective
This study conducts an in-depth discussion on the updating and mapping relationship of archival
research elements from DH perspective, re-examines and defines the elements of archival
research from the academic level, and clarifies the actual trend of method and path revolution
(see Table 1).
