users pay more attention to current hot topics, such as big data and internet public opinion. In all,
most users of official websites belong to “Library, Information and Archival Science” and users of
CNKI platforms belong to multiple disciplines.

3 Conclusion and discussion
This study selects academic papers of 61 Chinese journals and compares user platform preferences
and user interest preferences by analyzing usage data from journal official sites and CNKI
platforms with statistics and co-word analysis, then summarizes laws and contributory factors of
usage patterns and draws the following conclusions:
(1) There were significant differences in user platform preferences between journal official
sites and pay-for-access platforms. From the perspective of discipline, users tended to use journal
official sites rather than pay-for-access platforms to obtain papers, and paper downloads of social
science were higher than natural science in pay-for-access platforms. From the perspective of
