under the disciplinary category of “cultural heritages’ preservation and conservation”, and there
could be four second-level disciplines under it, i.e., “general theories of rare books’ preservation
and conservation”, “rare books’ identification and cataloguing”, “rare books’ preservation and
restoration” and “rare books’ reproduction and dissemination”. Such a disciplinary development
vision not only is based on the inner logic and realistic needs of rare books’ preservation and
conservation, but also conforms to global cultural heritage preservation and conservation. Of
course, it is a long-term vision and difficult to realize soon, and it still calls for the participation
of more scholars from various fields related to cultural heritage preservation and conservation.
However, if it could be realized, it would bring about profound changes in the disciplinary
construction as well as the talent cultivation of rare books’ preservation and conservation.
Health service: Switch on a new area of public libraries service

The current health demand has become the fastest growing demand of the public. As a social public
cultural facility, public libraries should integrate health into their development policies, use their
own characteristics to conduct health promotion and health service activities in order to provide
authoritative health information and promote health concepts, healthy behavior, healthy lifestyles
and health literacy through cross-institutional cooperation. The purpose of this paper is to analyze
the development of health services for public libraries at home and abroad, and to investigate the
necessity and feasibility of health services in China’s public libraries, with a view to promoting the
development of new fields for health services in public libraries in China.
In recent years, there have been some new developments in the world, showing that the scientific
community and the library community have a strong interest in the health services of public
libraries. By studying the development of the British and American academic circles, this paper
analyzed with several academic institutions or groups such as the Society of Chief Librarians,
OCLC and Institute of Museum and Library Services, American Association for the Advancement
of Science and Arts Council England as typical cases, found that health and libraries are
increasingly connected, and the public recognize the value of public library health services. Health
services are one of the library services they are most willing to accept.
This paper uses typical case analysis, development dynamic analysis and SWOT analysis
methods to study the trends of health services in public libraries, and to analyze the necessity,
rationality, strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and challenges of public library health
services.
Public libraries have begun to implement health services in the world. Public libraries can
