3.1 Transformation of library space
The spatial elements of the library transform from the physical space of early library building to
a hybrid space of the physical and the virtual, which makes the definition of library change from
“institution” to “space”. Accordingly, the concept of “ubiquitous library” comes into being. Heidi
Card (2018) points out in Lib2.0 that libraries are not only places to search and find information,
but also places to share information. The cultural department of Ontario, Canada, has issued a
strategic report entitled Third generation public libraries (Ontario Ministry of Culture, 2018). Wu
Jianzhong (2016) presents the concept of the third generation of the library which comes from
Shanghai Library’s East branch. And the transformation takes communication as the main body.
Ke Ping (2012) proposes to build a three-dimensional spatial model of library resources, services
and management beyond the third generation of library, and thinks that the library has developed
from the concept of strengthening organization and focus to that of strengthening place and space.
In the post-knowledge service era, the library completely changes the traditional library’s
