collection and reading space through space reconstruction, enhances the function applicability,
and makes the library a new function space. Shanghai Library, Guangzhou Library, Hangzhou
Public Library and Dongguan Library have already fulfilled the function of the public cultural
space in the construction of new libraries. Tianjin Binhai Library, the global online famous library
in 2017, creates the image of “Book Mountain” and “Eye of Binhai” in the atrium (Zheng, 2018).
With the brand new design, it is rated as the top 100 places worth visiting in the world by the Time
magazine. Its space design overturns the public’s definition of the traditional library, and recreates
the communication space of the public. Helsinki Central Library, the global online famous library
in 2018, takes “ode” (OODI) as a new concept of the library. It keeps the “public space” in the
traditional sense of the library, and builds new functional space, including the studio, game room,
joint office and so on. OODI aims to provide readers with knowledge, skills and stories, the
diversified urban public space, a non-commercial living and functional meeting place open for
all (Oodi, 2018). Although the most discussed sauna space failed to materialize, the discussion
also highlights the value of the library as a public communication center and a cultural experience
space of the city. These two cases are examples of the new generation of libraries, which proves
the value of library space transformation and truly fulfills the function of the third space of the city.
In the post-knowledge service era, the physical library is no longer relied on. Based on
intelligent technology and human wisdom as energy, the space design of the library can be
more flexible. While giving full play to its functional space value, more possibilities should be
addressed. The library should be a community for people and organizations to communicate in,
which can be cultural space to display local culture, shared learning space and research space to
create new environment, maker space to support innovation, and cooperative space to serve the
community. The design for books, equipment and corresponding facilities in the past is geared to
people, community and communication. The library creates the knowledge community, serves the
social development, and provides infinite space and ubiquitous service with more knowledgeable,
flexible and intelligent knowledge service.
3.2 Transformation of library resources
Library resources have gone beyond carriers, no longer limited to paper books or electronic data.
The pursuit of physical collection is no longer the ultimate goal of library resource construction.
The transformation of library resources is not to abandon books and embrace data, but to develop
both simultaneously. By further strengthening the construction of digital resources and multimedia
resources, especially the integration of paper resources and digital resources, the repository of all-
media resources and new resources of the library will finally be established.
For a long time, the construction of library resources was guided by the theory of value and
demands. The collection was based on the value of knowledge, and categories and copies were
decided by user demands. It emphasizes the systematic collection of documents of various types
