with Chinese characteristics was founded and developed in the context of lack of scientific and
technological information, it has been trying its best to narrow the sharp gap between massive
resources and its effective use. As a result, information retrieval comes into being. Nowadays,
the disorderly expansion of cyberspace far exceeds the speed that information technology breaks
down barriers to share information resources. The information environment is distributed and
heterogeneous. There are lots of other problems followed, such as information pollution and
disorientation. All these lead to information anxiety. The capacity for semantic expansion and
retrieval efficiency of surface structure based information retrieval is limited, while its noise factor
and probability of miss are high. Therefore, the retrieval strategy shifts from outer part of speech
[16]
retrieval strategy to inner meaning retrieval strategy . Information retrieval based on knowledge
unit becomes very important. As a technological approach, information retrieval is fully applicable
to solve the contradiction between accumulation and utilization of information that brought by
information explosion. However, we still need to study information retrieval technology in depth,
and improve information retrieval ability with big data technologies as soon as possible.
Information retrieval provides effective support for information reuse, discovery and increment.
Information reuse is the reuse of existing information, technologies, intelligence and knowledge.
It also includes reuse of the results achieved during the process of information production and
organization. Information discovery is a deep exploration and simulation of human explicit
or implicit thinking activities in information retrieval, which can identify users’ information
preferences and knowledge gaps. Information increment refers to the increase and change of the
quality and quantity of information value caused by the dynamic cyclic process of knowledge
structure [17] . Information reuse, discovery and increment have progressive relation. Information
retrieval is the technical support of mass information reuse, discovery and increment. Therefore,
as a tool, information retrieval meets the multimodal service requirements in the large-scale data
set context, including mass information reuse, discovery, increment and other related dynamic
requirements. Different users’ information needs or behaviors correspond to different information
retrieval models, such as Bates’ Berry-picking Model, Spink’s interactive process model. In brief,
information retrieval activities are people-oriented. Only when the specific needs of specific users
are met and the information could be connected to the users, can the information retrieval activities
under semantic, pragmatic or even smart methods have the value and significance of existence.
Based on the above analysis, this paper puts forward the following propositions on information
retrieval:
Proposition No.3: Information retrieval is the critical point to study and solve the sharp contradiction
for information accumulation and information utilization that brought by information explosion.
Proposition No.4: Information retrieval provides effective support for massive information reuse,
discovery and increment, which finally promotes the connection between specific users and relevant
information.
