From Table 2, we found that in this dataset, Weibo of the article could be prior to the formal
publishing as long as 505 days. #1 article was a political psychology article that was formally
published 505 days later. It studied whether news disclosure and increasing political knowledge
can reduce public false impression. #2 article was a preprint social science article. It studied the
influence of government internet surveillance on users’ search behavior. #3 article was a medical
article and studied the structural factors of reducing prostitutes’ AIDs infection. From Table 2,
we also found that article Weiboed was as early as 131 years ago. #4 article was a medical article
that investigated American food security. The Weiboer compared the results with contemporary
situation of Chinese food security. #5 article proved to be a classic literature of X-ray that was
deemed as foundational masterpiece in that area published by Roentgen in Nature. The Weiboer
discussed X-ray related topics. #6 article was a Japanese historical geographic article that
described the geographic division problem in Japanese colonization period. These indicated that
Weibo altmetrics indicator not only mention and discuss latest published literature, but also involve
and share historical and classic literature. And these kind of usage value cannot be captured by
citations.
