Figure 7. Frequency distribution of Weiboed journals.
Table 4 clearly showed that the most highly Weiboed journals included not only traditional
distinguished multidisciplinary journals like Nature (ranked No.1), Science (ranked No.3) and
Cell (ranked No.4), but also famous preprint or open access journals like arXiv (ranked No.2),
PLoS ONE (ranked No.7) and SSRN (ranked No.10). This indicated that open science and open
access had gained equivalent attention from the academia. Meanwhile, it is noticed that medical
journals had outstanding performance and many of them were heavily Weiboed. For example, New
England Journal of Medicine (ranked No.9), Journal of Clinical Oncology (ranked No.12), Science
Translational Medicine (ranked No.13), Neuron (ranked No.14) and The Lancet (ranked No.15)
etc. Among top 30 Weiboed journals, 12 were medical journals. This implied that researches
involved with life and health issues were more likely to be disseminated and discussed by Weibo.
In addition, biology sciences also had many highly Weiboed journals like Molecular Cell (ranked
No.11), Nature Biotechnology (ranked No.18) and CellStem Cell (ranked No.27). In psychology,
journal Psychological Science received the most Weibos.
