Figure 5. Disciplinary distribution of Weiboed articles(S s ).
In conclusion, disciplinary distribution based on S s vividly demonstrated that “Biology
Sciences” and “Medical Sciences” were most frequently Weiboed and thus obtained the most
attention from Chinese Weibo. Meanwhile, disciplines like “Social Science”, “Psychology” and
“Physics” etc. also obtained substantial attention. While disciplinary distribution based on S s
provided a macro view, disciplinary distribution based on S p and S m will provide further insight
as shown in Table 3.
From Table 3, we see disciplinary distributions based on S p and S m were basically in accordance
with that based on S s but provided more details. For example, in general “Biology Sciences”, it’s
found that “Cell biology” (8.62%,S m #3), “Molecular biology“ (3.27%,S m #6) and “Genetics”
(1.08%,S m #18) were more mentioned and discussed by Weibo. In “Medical Sciences”, it was
found that “Clinical Sciences” (4.01%,S p #5), “Oncology”(3.25%, S p #7;5.33%,S p #4),
“Neurosciences”(3.42%,S p #6; 4.37%, S m #5) and “Allergy and immunology” (1.98%, S m #9)
obtained relatively high Weibo attention. In “Social Sciences”, it’s “Cognitive Science” (4.28%,
S p #4), “Psychology”(3.09%, S p #8; 2.34%, S m #8), “Economics”(1.04%, S p #17) and “Political
Science” (1.03%, S p #18) were most frequently Weiboed.
