4 The expansion of smart library service
The above discussion of smart library service is mainly defined in the micro-library environment,
and the improvement of library smart service capabilities cannot be limited to the transformation
of individual libraries. The entire library industry and environment should also follow this trend,
further expand the library’s smart service capabilities, integrate and transcend the power of
individual institutions, and build a “big library” environment that forms a community of smart
services. This paper believes that the construction of the smart service of big library can be carried
out mainly from three aspects: knowledge sharing, social responsibility and demand discovery.
4.1 Bringing together the intelligence of the public in knowledge sharing
Traditional document delivery service spreads knowledge in a cross-library form and plays a large
role in resource sharing and resource acquisition capabilities (Q.Y. Liu, 2010). In the era of smart
libraries, it still needs to inherit the concept of resource sharing, and build knowledge communities
that share the knowledge resources by strengthening the connectivity of the library. On the one
hand, it is necessary to realize the sharing of library knowledge networks of different individual
institutions, build a more grand human objective knowledge network, expand the breadth and depth
of library knowledge, and make the scope and quality of library knowledge network far beyond
the Internet search engine, which would attract people to return to the library for knowledge
acquisition and learning environment. In fact, knowledge sharing in a big library environment can
also help to improve the level of library resource services with different economic conditions, and
help users to enjoy equitable knowledge services.
On the other hand, the sharing and integration of individual knowledge resources should be
attached importance to because individuals and institutions generate a large number of intellectual
resources. For example, in recent years, a number of open scientific data sites have emerged to
store and share research data, like Re3data.org (Pampel, 2016), which currently has nearly 2,000
data warehouses and continues to grow. Individual shared data has high reuse value, especially
government data and scientific data. If the library integrates these knowledgeable data and links
them with knowledge networks, it will further promote the updating of knowledge networks and
attract more people to share knowledge and knowledge innovation, which will promote a wider
range of smart activities and smart services.
4.2 Social responsibility in knowledge service
Similar to other social institutions such as schools and hospitals, libraries are also social
institutions, which are integrated models for serving major human demand and establishing
interpersonal relationships (Martin, 1937). Therefore, libraries have social attributes and cannot
