current patterns of reading behavior. In order to better comb through the reading behavior patterns,
we analyzed and compared the characteristics of the four classifications at each stage of reading
behavior.
First of all, in the pre-reading stage, the way of traditional readers to find the reading target is
more single. They pay more attention to the acquisition of paper books. However, high-engaged
hybrid readers will often use a variety of channels and put more efforts to set reading goals, giving
consideration to the access of paper books and e-books.
On the one hand, traditional readers generally “find reading targets based on reading content
preferences” in the choice of reading targeting factors, and are not affected by other factors such
as “peer influence” and “book list recommendation”. High-engaged hybrid readers take full
advantage of a variety of reading targeting channels to discover reading targets and do more to
target reading goals (see Figure 1). On the other hand, in the access to books, traditional readers
and passive hybrid readers often conduct the paper books-related acquisition behavior, rarely
related to the e-book acquisition behavior, while the standard hybrid readers and high-engaged
hybrid readers usually conduct the acquisition behavior about paper books and e-books equally
(see Figure 2). In other words, traditional readers and passive hybrid readers are more interested in
paper books, while standard hybrid readers and high-engaged hybrid readers take into account both
two channels.
